TEACHING PRACTICE Week 1 (10/06/24 - 15/06/24)
Our second phase of teaching practice commenced on the 10th of June, 2024. With great anticipation, I arrived punctually at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Vallikkeezh. I was assigned to teach Class 9 D, where I introduced the lesson "Half a Day" by Naguib Mahfouz, a fascinating story centered on the passage of time.
Throughout the week, I adhered to my lesson plans, successfully completing four of them. "Half a Day" proved to be an engaging narrative for the students, as it beautifully encapsulates life's journey from childhood to old age. The students displayed a high level of attentiveness and active participation during the lessons, which greatly enhanced the teaching and learning experience.
To maintain their interest and facilitate a deeper understanding of the story, I utilized a variety of teaching aids. These included charts that highlighted the main points and themes of the story, and pictures that vividly depicted the narrative's progression. These visual aids were instrumental in helping students grasp the abstract concepts related to time's passage and the story's symbolic elements.
As we progressed, we delved deeper into the story's symbolic elements and character development. The students engaged enthusiastically, raising thoughtful questions and contributing insightful observations, which indicated their deepening understanding of the text.
On Wednesday there was an assembly at the school where students were awarded certificates for their various achievements. This event provided a valuable opportunity to recognize and celebrate the students' hard work and dedication. The assembly also fostered a sense of community and motivation among the students, contributing positively to the school atmosphere.
Reflecting on the week's activities, I am pleased with the progress made. The students of Class 9 D have demonstrated remarkable engagement and enthusiasm, which has been both motivating and rewarding. This experience has reinforced my commitment to providing an enriching and interactive learning environment.
The positive response from the students and the successful execution of my lesson plans have bolstered my confidence as a Teacher Trainee. I look forward to the upcoming weeks with optimism, eager to continue this journey of mutual learning and growth.
